2018 Carnival bliss! Esha in her costume at the Socadrome stage |
Where do we begin?
Ultimate Trinidad Carnival 2018 was one of the best years yet! We had so much fun partying with our amazing clients
and can’t wait to share with you how it all went down…a good place to start is with the music huh?
De music
2018 was the year of the collaboration, hands down. Everyone collaborated with someone this year
to make beautiful soca music. From Kes and
Patrice to Lyrikal and Patrice to Marzville and well…Patrice (lol), all of
it was soooo good. And in case you didn’t
get it, one of our favorite soca artists, Patrice Roberts had a GREAT year!
EVERYBODY’S song was Splinters by Shal Marshall (see video above). This song on the 2 am Project riddim mashed up
everywhere. You couldn’t go to any fete
without hearing it and/or seeing Shal perform it live with so much energy that you
felt it in your bones! In fact every song on this riddim was great; a truly serious feat for any riddim. To see other songs on this riddim, click here.
In our humble opinion, 2018 was also the year of “ben ovah”. This phrase was glorified in so many soca
songs this year, that women almost felt like it was a permanent position
(lol)! If yuh had a bad back or knees, this was not the year for you…
We’ll be blogging in more detail about our top 10 fave soca
songs of this Carnival soon, so stay tuned.
Onward!
De mas
Feathers were really king this year! Every band seemed to explode with feathers
and bling – we think more than usual. It
was also out with the pastels and in with the bright colors – the brighter,
the better.
Our road experience with
YUMA was heavenly – we truly think they outdid themselves this year. The costumes looked sexy, the drinks were
flowing, soca music pumping, eye candy gleaming - *sigh* can we go back –
please?
Esha in her Monday wear |
And Esha didn’t forget to take a photo of her Monday
wear (see right)! The Carnival Monday
parade was epic too – we ended off the perfect day by crossing the Socadrome
stage – WHAT an wonderful surprise. And
then we got to party even more since Rogue, Caesar’s Army mas band crossed the stage right after us. Truly a great
year for playing mas in our opinion.
De dutty
J’ouvert!!! Please
take us back. Think more paint, more
mud, more water and more of everything.
Dirty Dozens J’ouvert was incredible!
The change in parade route around the Savannah was delightfully
different, giving you lots of room to wine, jump and prance. Our clients had a blast! And the after party was something else; just when you thought it couldn't get any wetter, it did. Somebody say, "Bring de water hose?" Yep, we were all stink and dutty from head to toe.
De fetes
Although the general consensus from veteran feters about the parties this year
was there was some cutting back, we still had a time. From Phuket’s serve yourself bar and Tiki bar
(we loved the light up glasses) to Lime’s “no filter” sunset to Sunny Side Up’s
new and fantastic fete layout, the partying experience was still remarkable with bacchanal in no short supply. Hmmm, shots every 12 minutes anyone? This was the mantra of 1 of our clients at Sunny Side Up!
