Carnivalista gift giving guide

Need a gift for the Carnivalista in your life?  We've got you covered!
Carnivalista gift giving guide
Thanks for stopping by our blog.  It’s your girl Esha here and this post is all about the Carnivalistas!  If you have someone in your life who goes to every Carnival, no matter the location OR their very first Carnival is coming up, this gift giving list is the only list you need to get the perfect gift for her.

Please note: this list is for informational purposes only.  Most of the businesses listed here are black owned because of my personal mission to support more black owned businesses (smile).  Here we go…

Carnival Parade gift ideas

Carnvalista tights are the ones I use every Carnival!  They also have some really cute (and useful) flesh toned products in our shades.  A couple of products that I particularly love are their nipple pasties (for the costume bra that doesn't cover much) and their Pumps, which are flesh toned wristlets.  Their Glow product is a body highlighter that gives you an unbelievable pearly shimmer and luminous look in the sunlight!  A great idea would be to purchase multiple items and create a little gift basket for your Carnivalista.  Don't forget to buy a fluffy makeup brush for the Glow :)

Esha in her Minnetonka boots
Comfortable footwear
I’ve worn several brands of parade shoes over the years, but by far the ones that have lasted the longest are my high-top Sperry Top Sider sneakers and my Minnetonka black suede boots.  Sadly, I wasn't able to find any high-top Sperry's to share with you, but Minnetonka has many choices of boots available.  Maybe a gift certificate would work or if you’re pretty confident in your Carnivalista’s style, purchase a pair that she'll like.  Be sure to get a gift receipt though (smile).

Monday wear
OMG - I stumbled across this website and I am in LOVE!  There are soooo many great items to choose from.  Any of the swimsuits on B Fyne’s website will be excellent and chic for Monday wear during Trinidad Carnival.  Perhaps you’ll purchase something as a gift to yourself?

Crafty gals
For those of you who are crafty (like me), it’s a great idea to make something sparkly and feathery for your Carnivalista.  I found a few tutorials on YouTube and am sharing them below.  I’m sure you know the color of your Carnivalista’s costume (she’s probably been sharing it all over Instagram lol), so make a matching pair of cuffs just for her.  Oh, and don’t forget to make a pair for yourself too :)
  • DIY Carnival bracelets

  • DIY Carnival costume (this video has great wristband and legband ideas)

  • Costume accessories
    Amani Ya Ju earrings
I came across so many cool websites with items for sale.  For Carnival costume accessories, I want you to think colorful, stylish and lightweight.  These websites all have items that match those 3 categories!  I especially LOVE Amani Ya Juu because they give part proceeds of their profits to bring peace and reconciliation to African women.  They also have some lovely wristlets and cross-body bags which are a must have for the Carnival Parade.

    J’ouvert gift ideas
I can’t recommended Shades of Color Loc Soc and SLAP’s by Grace Eleyae enough for J’ouvert.  These items will protect your hair from the paint, mud and powder that will get all over your Carnivalista during the bacchanal.  Both of these companies have head wraps in every color and funky print you can imagine.  Bonus: your Carnivalista can use them after J’ouvert is done to sleep in!
    Experience gift ideas
Pay her deposit to go on a trip
Maybe all she’s been talking about is going to experience a Carnival and hasn’t done it yet.  Why not do it for her?  Pay her deposit to just do it already!  Our Ultimate Trinidad Carnival 2020 (you'll have to sign up for our mailing list until we launch) and Ultimate Crop Over 2019 trips are perfect chances to do this.

Offer to organize a girls trip
Maybe ALL of you have been talking about going on a Carnival girls trip.  Why not offer to take the lead on planning the trip yourself or researching providers?  (Note: this option is if you have the time and a knack for planning).  While we think that planning your own international Carnival trip can be complicated, maybe start with one stateside or in your home town and see how it goes.  This is the gift that keeps on giving; you not only get to experience something amazing yourself, you get the gift giving part out of the way as well!

Pay to get her hair done or nails/toes done for her trip
This one is purely about pampering.  Do you know where she usually gets her hair and/or nails done?  You can purchase a gift certificate for her at the hair salon or the nail salon.  She’ll be road ready for her trip from head to toe!

    Brown Sugar Box cosmetic pouch
For the true "travelista" who is also a Carnivalista, these cosmetic bags are perfect!  These really are multi-purpose; they can hold cosmetics, travel size hair and skin products, anything!  AND they’re cute…

This is an idea I got from one of our Trinidad Carnivalistas.  It's basically a "blinged out" cup that she can use at parties and the Carnival Parade.  You can get one made with your Carnivalista's flag colors so she can represent!

Hope you liked our Carnivalista gift ideas list.  I’ll be adding more products as I come across them.

Now over to you - what products would you add to the list?  Feel free to comment below.
